Farmers form new movement

Coimbatore, Jul 5 (PTI) Several farmers and agriculture related organisations in the region today announced formation of "People's Movement of India" (PMI) which would take up their cause and find solutions to the various problems being faced by the farming community. PMI Organiser S Nallasamy told reporters that the movement would organise a padayatra to Chennai from here on Sept 21, demanding that the Centre take measures to tackle the problems being confronted by the agriculture and related sectors. Instead of footing heavy crude oil import bill, govenrment can consider production of ethanol for use in vehicles, he said.
