Fake milk powder bags seized from godown

Madurai, Apr 13 (PTI): Fake milk powder bags, intended for distribution in Tamil Nadu and Kerala have been seized by revenue department officials from a godown here. This followed instructions from District Collector U Sagayam. Officials seized two van loads of milk powder and impounded the vehicles. The fake milk powder was being supplied by the dealer to customers in Dindigul, Theni and in Kerala, they said. The Collector, who inspected the consignment, directed the authorities to send a sample for check in laboratory, an official press release said. Officials said the fake powder looked genuine but when tasted, led to some irritation in the mouth due to mixing of a chemical. Ten litres of milk could be produced from one kg of fake milk powder, they said. No arrests have been made so far.
