Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 16 (PTI)A group of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists today tried to barge into secretariate complex during their agitation in protest against UDF government's move to raise the pension age of government employees. Police prevented the activists at the main gate. However, one of the activists managed to enter the compelex and reached upto the Chief Minister's Office building, before he was arrested by the police. The protest happened when a cabinet sub-committee was scheduled to hold a meeting to discuss the issue connected with raising the pension age from the present 55 years. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had stated yesterday that the government would take a decision on the 'sensitive' issue only after taking the youth into confidence. Chandy said the matter was under consideration actively at different level and no consensuc had been arrived on the issue. Chandy had also said that in view of high life expectancy rates of people of the state now, the demand for raising the pension age was genuine, but the concern of the jobless youths was paramount importance.
