New Delhi, Feb 17 (PTI) The national capital is all set to raise its own disaster management force on the lines of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) with Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna backing the move. The proposal for raising a state disaster response force was discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Khanna today which took stock of emergency disaster preparedness of the city and analysed performance of various agencies and departments during the mega mock drill on Wednesday. "We discussed raising a separate battalion of disaster response force and I have told the Divisional Commissioner to bring it to the notice of Chif Minister Sheila Dikshit," Khanna said. He said the meeting reviewed the entire disaster management system in the city and particularly discussed about response mechanism of various agencies and departments during the mega mockdrill. Khanna said independent observers from Army who presented their feedback on the drill suggested that all the nine districts should have disaster response centres having key equipments and resources to deal with any situation of disaster. He said the state disaster response force (SDRF) will have a total strength of 900 personnel and they will be distributed equally in all nine districts. "Each of the nine districts will have a group of 100 personnel," he said, adding the meeting decided that a battalion from Delhi Armed Police should be trained in disaster management to deal with any eventualities till the SDRF was raised.
