Dalit priest suicide:Father moves HC seeking CBI probe

Madurai, Dec 27(PTI) The father of a Dalit priest, who allegedly committed suicide leaving a purported suicide note alleging that a brother of a Tamil Nadu Minister was responsible for his death, today filed a plea in the Madras High Court bench here, seeking transer of the case from police to CBI. The note by the deceased, Nagamuthu, a dalit priest, had charged Raja, brother of Minister O.Panneerselvam, as being responsible for his death. In a petition, his father, N.Subburaj, sought transfer of the case from Tenkarai Police station at Theni to CBI. He also prayed to transfer the case, registered by police under Prevention of Atrocities against SC/St Act against two close associates of Raja, for allegedly intimidating Nagamuthu and abusing him using his caste name and preventing him from entering Kailasanathar shrine on October 11, to the CBI. The complaint against the duo was given by Nagamuthu. Police closed the complaint as mistake of fact,after he approached the High Court to direct the Judicial Magistrate to register the case. Nagamuthu was threatened to withdraw his complaint agianst the duo, it was alleged. The petitioner said in his suicide note, his son had said Raja was responsible for his death. He alleged that police were hand in glove with the accused,and they would not conduct a fair investigation. Besides, Raja was an influential man.
