Puducherry, Feb 16 (PTI) Leaders of various political parties here today urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to order a judicial probe into the January 27 violent incidents in Yanam, in which a trade union leader died and a company executive was allegedly lynched following labour unrest. A delegation of the leaders led by CPI local unit Secretary R.Viswanathan in a joint memorandum demanded a judicial inquiry headed by a judge of the Madras High Court into the violent incidents at Yanam, an enclave of union territory of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh. Viswanathan in a release said representatives of the CPI (ML), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Rashtriya Janata Dal, All India Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party submitted the memorundum to Rangasamy. They wanted the probe to cover violent incidents, police firing and lathi charge against the workers of Regency Ceramics and posting of an IAS officer as the Regional Administrative officer in Yanam. Alleging that trade union leader Murali Mohan died of police torture, Viswanathan sought a detailed probe into the police action. They also demanded a ban on contract labour system adopted by the Regency Ceramicsa and lifting of the lock out now in force. The family bereaved of Mohan should be paid a solatium of Rs 25 lakhs while each of the nine workers injured in police firing be paid a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs, the memorandum said.
