Ahmedabad, Aug 28 (PTI) A delegation of Union Government today arrived here to assess the drought-like situation prevailing in parts of the state. A nine-member delegation, led by Joint Secretary Union Ministry of Agriculture Vimlendra Sharan, will tomorrow visit Saurashtra and Kutch region that is worst-hit due to deficient rains, a top state official said. The delegation today met state officials, including the State Relief Commissioner and reviewed the situation. The visit by the delegation comes after the Gujarat government submitted to the Centre revised estimates of losses due to scanty rainfall. Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had held a meeting with chief Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month in this regard. Earlier, the state government had submitted a memorandum of Rs 14,683 crore to Pawar to fight the drought-like situation in the state, which was later revised. The empowered group of minister (EGoM) on drought, headed by Pawar, have already sanctioned Rs 480 crore as immediate relief to Gujarat for drinking water in rural parts. PTI VKB PD NP SRE
