Kolkata, Feb 09 (PTI) Nearly 1,500 cardiac surgeons from India and abroad joined the 58th annual meeting of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) here today with focus on rising incidence of heart diseases and remedies. The four day meet of the cardiac surgeons will be synchronised by the first joint workshop with the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) which is stated to be one of the principal cardiac scientific meetings in South-East asia. The conference will bring together leading surgeons in coronary, congenital, aortic, valve and thoracic surgery. Organisers said "for the first time in India, the original research work on genetics causes of heart diseases and diabetic will be presented. "Kolkata will also have the privilege to witness the first-ever demonstration of the most recent version of the Artificial Heart : Heartmate II." The purpose of the workshops will be to initiate a process of clinical and academic collaboration on the global platform.
