Panaji, Feb 13 (PTI) Opposition BJP in a bid to lure electorate ahead of the March 3 Goa Assembly polls has hit the campaign announcing a slew of measures catering to various sections of society, including the women and elderly. Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar announced that the alliance of BJP and Maharashtravadi Gomantak Party (MGP) will raise the social security benefit for elderly from current Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 2000, if voted to power. Parrikar, who was addressing a public rally in Ponda town last evening said, the combine has listed out several socially beneficial measures in their election manifesto, which will be released in next couple of days. The Dayanand social security scheme initiated by Parrikar during his tenure as chief minister offers pension to elderly above 60 years, widows and the handicapped. The BJP-MGP alliance has also promised to pay Rs 1,000 per month to women if got elected. Parrikar said if the combine given a popular mandate, it would ensure that social indicators in the state remain high.
