New Delhi, Feb 11 (PTI) Reaching out to people ahead of the crucial MCD polls, BJP today launched a yatra to create awareness about what it called a "corrupt" Congress Government in Delhi and issues that concern the common man. The "Jansangharsh Yatra" by Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta, which was flagged off from Burari, will cover the entire city in 15 days and is aimed at exposing "the failures of the Delhi government." Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Gupta asked the Central government why Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was not being held responsible for the CWG scam and why all the culprits were not being probed in the 2G scam. He also slammed Dikshit saying not a single colony had been authorised during the last five years and not a single college opened during the period under the Delhi University. "The Delhi government is making false promises on the one hand during elections, and indulging in scams worth crores of rupees on the other," he said. He claimed that power tariff was to be reduced in 2010, but Dikshit opposed this, and the rates have instead increased since then. With the help of private companies, the people of Delhi are being looted for water, he said. BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra said Delhi is no longer safe for women and has become a land of criminals, rapists and the mafia. He said the Congress government was "immune to the problems of the common man", and the people of Delhi should give BJP a chance to solve their problems. The launch date coincided with the 44th death anniversary of former BJP leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, and BJP leaders, including Gupta, paid rich tributes to him. PTI MNS SJY
