Patna, Feb 18 (PTI) Alleging large-scale irregularities in the distribution of funds under central schemes in Nalanda, the home district of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar Youth Congress today demanded a CBI probe into it. ''Large-scale irregularities have been detected in distribution of funds under MNREGA, Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) and Disaster Management in Bihar ... Either the beneficiaries of the funds are dead or they have deserted their native villages and migrated elesewhere for jobs,'' Bihar YC president Lalan Kumar told reporters here. ''One can imagine the magnitude of the irregularities in the light of the large number of complaints from Nalanda, the CM's home district ... A five-member state YC delegation will meet Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh in New Delhi to apprise him of the glaring irregularities and virtual loot of funds under the centrally sponsored schemes like MNREGA and IAY,'' he said. Citing instances, he said several beneficiaries shown as recepients of relief under Disaster Relief Funds at Parthu panchayat of Ekangarsarai block were either dead or have left the village for other places. A village head, who was relative of a political leader had allegedly embezzeled Rs 5.74 lakh from MNREGA and no development work like construction of roads or culvert was visible in his area in the district, he said. ''Nothing short of a CBI probe will be able to unravel the truth related to misappropriation, embezzlement and loot of funds and distribution among fake beneficiaries,'' he said adding state YC would launch an agitation if the state government faileD to recommend a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities.
