Solapur, Feb 16 (PTI) Around 52 per cent voting was registered today during election to the Solapur Municipal Corporation (SMC). The voting passed off peacefully amidst police deployment and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in this Western Maharashtra city. Although the official voter turnout was yet to be announced, unofficial sources put the figure at around 52 per cent. The fate of 557 candidates, who are in the fray for 102 seats, has been locked in the electronic voting machines (EVMs). Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and his MLA- daughter Praniti exercised their franchise at the polling centre in Government ITI College in the morning. SMC, currently controlled by Congress, is witnessing a triangular contest between the ruling party, NCP and Shiv Sena-BJP combine. NCP and Congress fought against each other in the civic election.
