Chennai,Feb11 (PTI) A canopy of colourfully descending parachutes manoeuvred by sky-divers and smoke trajectories of bullets enthralled the gathering as adventure teams of the Indian Army and IAF engaged in breath-taking exercises and demonstration of small and medium firearms near here today. NCC and OTA cadets' roar of approval filled the Tamil Nadu Police firing range at Hanumanthapuram, as sky divers emerged as dots from a speeding AN 32 aircraft 8,000 feet above. Sky divers from the special forces of 50 Para Brigade Regiment represented the Army, while the famous Akash Ganga team represented the Indian Air Force. School children with their parents thronged the area at Chengalpattu, over 40 km from here as the sky divers, descended on the scenic landscape. Then it was time for troops of the 25 Punjab Regiment to show their firepower with their ammunition. Small arms, medium range and long range weapons jerked spasmodically as they fired, giving the audience a slice of what-a-warfield-looked-like. Lt. Gen S S Jog, Commandant of the Officers' Training Academy, who was present, said the display was to showcase the power and strength of the Indian armed forces and to inspire youngsters to join the troops.
