New Delhi, Feb 16 (PTI) Congress today hit out at Mayawati government over the death of another health official in Uttar Pradesh saying it proves the party's charges of corruption in NRHM in Uttar Pradesh to be true. "We had been saying from the very beginning that a scam took place in the funds that were given to Uttar Pradesh in the National Rural Health Mission. We had been saying it for long. It is now being proved," Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said. She was reacting to the death of another health official Mahendra Sharma under mysterious circumstances in Uttar Pradesh. "Since the probe began, people associated with the scam are either being killed in accidents or being found murdered every third-fourth day," Soni said. 52-year-old Sharma, reported missing since February 7, is the fifth victim in the last one year after the alleged bungling of over Rs 10,000 crore of central funds in the National Rural Health Mission in Uttar Pradesh surfaced. In 2010-11, two senior doctors associated with the health department were murdered within months of each other. Another official was found dead in a Lucknow jail. In January, a UP Jal Nigam officer allegedly committed suicide because he was being investigated in connection with the scam. The CBI, which is probing the scam, has asked the state police to beef up security of witnesses and suspects. Family members of the accountant have accused health department officials of harassment.
