All Trade Unions Action committee's plea to Pondy government

Puducherry,Feb11 (PTI) Trade unions today asked Puducherry government to persuade the Centre to install a textile park here on the lines of similar ones proposed to be set up in 11 states. A resolution was adopted in this regard at a joint meeting of trade union leaders representing workers belonging to government-owned AFT mills here. V.S.Abishegam, AITUC Puducherry unit Secretary, said in a release at the end of the meeting that Centre had finalised a total investment of Rs 2,100 crore for textile parks in 21 centres in 11 States. Work has already been started in this regard and Puducherry government should persuade the Centre to include Puducherry also in its plan for the park` which would generate jobs for the educated youth in Puducherry, he said. Trade union leaders belonging to Anna Trade Union, Labour Progressive Front, National Trade Union, INTUC, CITU, UTUC and other outfits participated. The meeting also through another resolution took strong exception to the management of the AFT mills here "postponing" reopening the mill which has suspended production since December 30 when cyclone-Thane lashed the coast.
