Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 9 (PTI) Stung by the virulent attack on him at the ongoing CPI-M state meet, party stalwart and former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has conveyed his displeasure over it to the party's central leadership. The 87-year-old leader is learnt to have expressed his displeasure to party general secretary Prakash Karat and Politbureau members attending the meet on the sharp digs at him in the organisational report presented to delegates and these critical references finding their way to the media before the meet was concluded. Party sources said Achuthanandan was criticised by many delegates for taking positions at variance with the party's official stand on some important issues in the last four years. The organisational report especially found fault with him for declining to toe the party line after state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan figured as an accused in a corruption case dating to the early 1990s. Achuthanandan, however, declined to comment on the issue when reporters queried him last night about the development. Also, during the official briefing on deliberations at the meet, party leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan yesterday rebutted the claim of a section of media that they had been able to access the confidential party report. According to Balakrishnan, what the media had touted as the organisational report were only documents already publicised by the Central Committee, but given to conference delegates as reference material. Meanwhile, to the relief of the Left camp, the acrimony between CPI(M) and CPI in the state, which vitiated the atmosphere on the eve of the conferences of the two parties, has subsided. A signal to end the mud-slinging over minor issues has been clearly put across to their respective state leadership by Karat and CPI general secretary A B Bardhan by maintaining that the need of the hour is to strengthen Left unity and that local irritants should not come in the way of the larger goal.
