Jamshedpur, Feb 13 (PTI) Seventeen activists of Jharkhand Mukti Vahini (JMV), an organization of displaced villagers, today sat on a fast unto death here demanding compensation and rehabilitation for displacement years back. Hundreds of JMV activists including women took out a procession, demonstrated in front of the office of East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner before 17 of them led by JMV Convenor Madan Mohan sat on fast. Madan Mohan said 12 villages were acquired to develop Dimna Lake, the main sources of water supply in the command area, decades back but no compensation or rehabilitation was given to 450 families, who were displaced. Besides compensation and rehabilitation, he demanded around 102 acres of land acquired for the purpose should be compensated with alternative land to affected families. The acquired villages included Barajpur, Punsa, Lailong, Saldoha, Kuntimatli and Haludbani. JMV leader said representatives of the displaced families had as many as 17 round of talks including last meeting two months ago in the presence of the representative of the district administration. Madan Mohan, however, admitted that "some" families were compensated but claimed it to be "partial". The JMV leader demanded that Jharkhand government should implement the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act (CNT) strictly in the state.
