Kannur (Ker), Feb 21 (PTI) Dawn to dusk hartal called separately by ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) and opposition Left Democratic front (LDF) in Kannur district today was total and paralysed the normal life of the people. LDF had given the call in protest against the attack on three of its leaders, allegedly my Muslim League actvists, while UDF had given the call to protest against the hacking of a Muslim League activist. The three CPI(M) leaders have been hospitalised. The hartal, which began at 6 AM, ended at 6 PM. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district, police said. All business establishments and educational institutions remained closed in the district.State transport buses, private buses, autorickshaws and and two wheelers were off the road. District authorities have clamped prohibitory orders in seven police circles in Kannur for three days from 8 PM yesterday. Thaliparambu and surrounding areas in the district have been witnessing political clashes between CPI(M) and Muslim League activists over the last few weeks. Police have made tight security arrangements in view of the tense situation in the area.
