Carlos Checa triumphed in race one only to falter in the second while Marco Melandri makes the most of his misfortune, winning race two. This in addition to his second place in race one catapults him into secondplace in the championship tied on points with Tom Sykes. Another man smiling after two third places this weekend is Max Biaggi who increases his lead to 18 points in the championship despite having only won the opening race, back in Australia.

Race one saw some tight action up front with four riders; Checa, Jonathan Rea, Melandri and Biaggi battling up front. In the end this became two separate battles with Checa and Melandri tussling for first and Biaggi and Rea fighting it out for third.Checa held on for the win with Melandri in second and Biaggi just edging out a charging Rea for third.

Race two seemed to have the same script but Checa, pushing a little too hard, lost the front and went off. This left Melandri and Rea pushing to lead the race with Biaggi in third. Melandri won BMWs second race in Superbikes ahead of Jonathan Rea and Biaggi in third. Biaggi leads the Championship with 160.5 points with Melandri and Tom Sykes on 142.5 points apiece. World Superbikes moves to San Marino at the Missano circuit on the 10th of June.
