While everyone will be busy celebrating Diwali by bursting crackers, distributing sweets amongst friends and relatives, going out for a movie or even just chilling at home, India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki chose the opposite way. The auto manufacturer's employees visited various NGOs and volunteer centres to bring a smile to the faces of the deprived. A group of employees visited an orphanage and organized a diya decorating' competition for the young. The kids were mentored by the Maruti employees and once the competition was over, the children gifted the diyas to the latter. The fun filled day ended with volunteers presenting the children with surprise gifts and treating them with light refreshments.

Another group of employees celebrated Diwali with a group of students from a government school. Here, about 40 young trainees of the company spent a day with the students, engaging them in diya decoration, counseling them to celebrate Diwali safely through poster making sessions and educate them on the ill effects of crackers through games and plays etc.

Explaining the outlook of such efforts, Ranjit Singh, general manager, CSR and sustainability said, "The young volunteers in the company look forward to such programs as this is something different from routine life and brings a positive change in their lifestyle."
