The US production model of the Ford Fiesta was unveiled at the 2009 Los Angeles show. The new Fiesta will feature a new four-door version besides the five-door one. "The Fiesta sets a new standard for delivering an expressive and desirable small car in the US," said Ford president of The Americas Mark Fields.

The Fiesta is a market leader in Europe and has evoked rave reviews at its Asia launch. John Fleming, executive vice president and chairman and CEO, of Ford, Europe, said, "We are confident that the success we are enjoying with new Fiesta in the European market will transfer to North America as customers there come to understand that small can mean stylish and sophisticated, as well as fun."

The US Fiesta features the same 1.6-litre 120PS DOHC inline-4 engine known for its spirited performance and fuel economy. It has been downsized thanks to Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT). A new front-end accessory drive (FEAD) belt, with stretchy dynamics, improves friction, its elasticity averting the need for a belt tensioner and enhancing overall fuel economy. A new six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission is available for the first time on the new Fiesta besides the standard five-speed manual transmission. With twin internal clutches, the automatic blends the responsive performance and fuel economy of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic. The car will sport a segment first Hill Start Assist function to avert rollback on inclines and an Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) from the European version. On the safety front, the US Fiesta will feature dual-stage airbags for the front seats, a special driver's knee airbag, side air bags and side curtain airbags. The car will sport AdvanceTrac® with ESC (Electronic Stability Control) as standard along with seat belt pretensioners, rear door child safety locks and a Safety Canopy® system with rollover sensors. NVH levels are kept to a minimum by means of a special laminated windscreen, a bonnet lining, enhanced door seals, padding behind the instrument panel and foam baffles inside the pillars. The car will offer standard and available features including Ford SYNC®, integrating a driver's mobile phone with Fiesta's onboard, voice-activated communications and entertainment system, keyless entry, push button start, a first in the US small car segment, rake- and reach-adjustable steering wheel and a capless refuelling system, another US first. The Fiesta is the second best-selling car in Europe with over 500,000 units sold since its launch. Here is the originla press release:

Cologne/Los Angeles, December 2, 2009 - The eagerly-awaited introduction of Ford's award-winning Fiesta to North America is finally under way, with today's unveiling of the U.S. production model at the 2009 Los Angeles Show.
The U.S. version of the new Fiesta looks set to build on the huge sales success already enjoyed in Europe and other parts of the world. Over 500,000 Fiestas have already been sold and it is expected to take the U.S. by storm when it goes on sale there next year.
The U.S. production version will not only deliver Fiesta's acclaimed looks to a whole new audience, but also the best fuel economy of any vehicle in its segment.  The familiar five-door bodystyle is joined, uniquely for this market, by a new four-door version and will continue to set new small car benchmarks for safety, connectivity and powertrain technology.

"The Fiesta sets a new standard for delivering an expressive and desirable small car in the U.S.," said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas.  "Today, we're continuing to build on Fiesta's worldwide momentum to deliver a new generation of small cars for a new generation of North American customers."
Fiesta is the next milestone under the company's ONE Ford plan to design and develop vehicles that meet the differing needs, wants and expectations of customers around the world.  It is already a market leader in Europe and has recently launched to rave reviews in Asia.
"We're very proud of the Fiesta and delighted to be taking the next important step in our roll out of global small cars that have been led by the European arm of our Product Development team," said John Fleming, Executive Vice President and Chairman & CEO, Ford of Europe. "We are confident that the success we are enjoying with new Fiesta in the European market will transfer to North America as customers there come to understand that small can mean stylish and sophisticated, as well as fun."Extensive global research into customer preferences, conducted when planning Fiesta, clearly indicated that the desire for style topped the list of customer wants, everywhere in the world.  From Europe, across North America and to the Asia Pacific region, customers are looking for a distinctively designed small car that offers world-class quality, convenience, comfort and connectivity.
