After announcing their participation in the 2012 WTCC , Honda Motor Co. Ltd has unveiled their motorsport program and strategy. As we reported earlier, Honda will be using the new European Civic with a turbocharged engine with the inaugural race being held at the Suzuka circuit, Japan in October.
Honda will be competing in the GT500 class in the Super GT series with their HSV-010 GT. They will also be entering five teams in this series. The GT300 series will have Honda competing with a CR-Z which is fitted with a racing hybrid system, developed in association with M-TEC Co. LTD. In the All-Japan Formula Nippon championship, Honda will be entering four teams with the 3.4-litre V8 HR10E engine. For the North American IndyCar series, 10 cars and six teams will be using Honda's 2.2-litre V6 Hl12R engine.
As far as Honda's MotoGp aspirations go, the new RC213V machine, which has been developed keeping in mind the 2012 regulations, will be ridden by team Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa. In the Moto2 class, Honda is still the sole official engine supplier with a CBR600RR based engine. The Moto3 class will see 4-stroke 250cc engines instead of the 125cc ones, will have Honda's NSF250R.
All in all it seems that 2012 will be a very busy year for Honda as far as their motorsports is concerned.
