It was a very good finish for the market, despite the lackluster morning and flattish trade around midday, says CNBC-TV18's managing editor Udayan Mukherjee. It's only towards the end that the Nifty started moving higher and then in a final flourish it took out that 5400 level. So there is still a lot of liquidity and quite ample momentum in the market.

Volumes were good today over Rs 1,30,000 crore, so no problems there. The breadth too was quite good.

There were no particular leaders today with the exception of the private sector banking universe which continues to rally higher. Names like Kotak Bank, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank remained very strong today. So if you had to single out, that one sector was probably the star of the day. Some of the power stocks like JSPL, Reliance Power, Siemens and Tata Power closed up as well, so that's another pocket of strength. Wipro and Infosys and some auto stocks like M&M and Bajaj Auto did not do too badly either.

Not too many stocks in the losing list today, but there were a few like Sun Pharma and DLF. Hindalco started the day with a 6% fall on the back of the Novelis numbers, which came in yesterday, but the fall got arrested by the end of trade.

Midcaps, as I said, had a very good day and two clusters, real estate and infrastructure, looked very smart. Stocks like HDIL, Unitech and Indiabulls Realty were all up smartly, as were some of the infra names like Hindustan Construction and IVRCL. Even the beaten down Nagarjuna Construction had a good run today.

There were some result reactions like Jubilant Foodworks, which came in with good numbers a day before, a rally in Apollo Tyres, Gati, PFC and REC, Arvind and Alok in textiles and Pantaloon among the big winners today.

On the losing side, Manappuram fell once again and the Adani twins, Adani Enterprises and Adani Power, did not have a good session. But otherwise, it's really a very good end to trade going into the Greek resolution, which wasn't out by the time the markets closed today.
