Udayan Mukherjee, managing editor, CNBC-TV18, says that it was a good session of trade. The Nifty had a mini breakout above the range of 5040-5140 and touched 5160. Market was sluggish in the morning but picked up in the second half of the day and outperformed most other global equity markets today.
Bank Nifty closed the day 2% points higher. Infrastructure stocks like L&T , BHEL , Reliance Infra did quite well. Even stocks like DLF , ITC , ONGC , HPCL and BPCL were also up today. Had Reliance and TCS participated, the Nifty would have done much better, but Reliance was subdued today on the back of the downgrade on D6 output, which came in from Niko so that did not do very well and cement stocks were also lackluster for most of the trading session. The broader market has been doing well and it continued to do well today. The mid caps were outperforming for most part of the day. Stocks like HDIL , Indiabulls Realty , Nagarjuna Construction, Educomp , Essar Oil , Jain Irrigation , Petronet LNG were all on the winning side today.
