It was a boring end to a boring week. The markets have ended the day and the week on a very flat note. There were no great runaway cues from global markets as well. The Nifty for the day has closed just below the 5,150 mark and the Sensex shut shop at 17,116 points.

The broader markets also had a flat day. However, the breadth continued to struggle through the day and closed at about 1:2 in favour of declines.

On the winning side today, Cairn India was the big mover towards close. It saw a 4% rally. Bharti Airtel made a late dash providing some support to the markets, closing up about 2%.

On the losing side, Hindustan Unilever slips about 4% in trade. Sugar is the sector that continues to bleed over concerns over global prices. Another space that has done badly in trade is the fertiliser pack.

Volumes remain lacklustre around Rs 81,000 crore. A good part about markets was that they held on to their post Budget rally and closed up 1% for the week.
