iNDXTb, an organsiation of the government of Gujarat and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised a series of forums to discuss sustainability as a run-up to the Vibrant Gujarat 2013 Summit. The first half of these forums revolved around the basics of sustainability, understanding the dimensions and contours of sustainability with specific reference to growth of the Indian economy.
In the second half, the topic of discussion covered sustainable growth for a hungry nation. The conversation revolved around the challenges of providing the basic necessities of food, water, power, education, health, employment and shelter to a billion people. The key question revolved around providing basic amenities and sustaining growth without irreparably damaging the environment.
Offering various perspectives in the discussions was an eminent panel comprising HK Dash, principal secretary, forest and environment department, government of Gujarat, Gary Urquhart, senior VP Westinghouse Electric, Nitin Shukla, MD and CEO Hazira LNG & Port Companies, KC Chakrabarty deputy governor RBI, Ashit Doshi, MD Doshion Veolia Water Solutions, Suzanne John Coates, chief, water sanitation and hygiene, UNICEF India, Gopi Shankar, director - trade, Victorian Government Business Office India and KU Mistry, chairman Gujarat Pollution Control Board.
