After a muted show in theatres on the first day, Ranbir Kapoor's Jagga Jasoos had a good weekend. The actor was prepared to pay distributors if the film did not fare well, following Salman Khan's footsteps, who earlier this month agreed to refund losses to the distributors of Tubelight.

Owing to the business in big cities, Jagga Jasoos saw a 30 percent growth in collections on Saturday raking in Rs 11 crore as against Rs 8.25 crore on Friday. On Sunday, the film reported collections worth Rs 12.50 crore and took the weekend total to Rs 31.75 crore. It was essential for the film to take its weekend collections to around Rs 32 crore, given its high budget of Rs 75 crore.

According to a Box Office India report, the film’s limited release, due to its niche content, helped it curb losses. The film could have played at 2,500 or 3,000 screens, but it was shown only on 1,800 screens — making it the smallest release of the year, behind Sachin - A Billion Dreams, which was shown only on 1,950 screens.

In fact, Jagga Jasoos was released by an in-house studio further helping cap the losses. The report further says that Anurag Basu’s experimental film is not as much a failure as expected.

Jagga Jasoos' opening weekend performance has beaten the likes of Kaabil and Half Girlfriend despite being an experimental film as far as the content is concerned, the report said.
