Niti panel discuss digital payments with district collectors

"NITI-led committee of officers makes a detailed presentation to district collectors on ways to promote digital payments among all citizens!," the government think tank tweeted.

A Niti Aayog-led panel, which is looking into digital payments for all government-citizen transactions, today made a detailed presentation to 525 district collectors on ways to promote easy digital payments.

"NITI-led committee of officers makes a detailed presentation to district collectors on ways to promote digital payments among all citizens!," the government think tank tweeted.

Separately, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant also tweeted, "Fascinating interaction with over 525 District Collectors on making India Go Digital. Tremendous enthusiasm & response from young officers." The committee, yesterday, made a presentation before state chief secretaries on ways to promote digital payments.

With an aim to weed out black money and corruption from public life, the government last week had said that it has constituted a committee to look into digital payments for all government-citizen transactions.

The Committee of Officers, under the leadership of NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, will identify and operationalise in the earliest possible timeframe user-friendly digital payment options in all sectors of the economy, an official statement had said.

This is integral part of the government's strategy to transform India into a cashless economy, it had added.

The statement had said aim of the committee is to identify various digital payment systems appropriate to different sectors of the economy and coordinate efforts to make them accessible and user-friendly.

The committee will also identify infrastructural bottlenecks affecting the access and utility of digital payment options.

"We must leapfrog to digital cash," the Aayog quoted Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon Kiran Mazumdar Shaw as saying.
