Hotels can make or break a holiday and travel website TripAdvisor has come up with a list of their members' favourite places to stay based on who you're travelling with and the type of vacation you're seeking.

TripAdvisor's annual list includes more than 700 hotels worldwide which were recognised based on the reviews they were given by millions of travellers on the website.

Arcadia Residence in Prague, the Czech Republic, was voted as the world's top bargain hotel while another Prague establishment, Golden Well, was voted as the top luxury hotel.

Families voted Istanbul, Turkey's Sirkeci Konak Hotel, as the best place to stay while romance-seekers picked Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa in French Polynesia as their favourite.

Amsterdam's citizenM topped the list of the world's trendiest hotels and Drowsy Water Ranch, in Granby, Colorado in the United States was voted as the world's top all-inclusive resort.

By country and region, the Inn New York City was picked as the top hotel in the United States, the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris the best in Europe, the Mandarin Oriental in Tokyo the best in Japan, BuddhaZen Hotel in Chengdu the best in China and Casa Candolim the best in India.

"Inspired by millions of trusted traveler reviews and opinions on TripAdvisor.com, the Travelers' Choice awards highlight the finest hotels in the world," Christine Petersen, TripAdvisor chief marketing officer, said in a statement.
