The XBox 360 will soon be here and it's a console positioned to offer a complete home entertainment experience. Now this device might almost be future ready, but is it people ready? It's showtime for the XBox 360. Microsoft says the box will be on Indian retail shelves in September this year.
The price for the XBox ranges from Rs 19,990, excluding taxes, for a basic model and Rs 23,990 for a high-end model. Although, its competition is the eagerly awaited Playstation 3, which will be something to watch out for, Microsoft's entertainment division country head Mohit Anand is not concerned.
Country Head-Entertainment Division, Microsoft India, Mohit Anand told CNBC-TV18, "We do not decide our policy based on the delay of our competitor's product. We are going in for a 360 degree marketing blitz and also we are going in for an aggressive pricing strategy, so that the gamer and a regular user can play it."
But will Indian consumers take the bait? Microsoft has positioned the XBox 360 as a home entertainment package, rather than just a game console. It can download data from the internet and play DVDs as well. Microsoft hopes this will enhance its appeal. It also has more accessories on the way, which just might help it, to perform well on the shopfloor.
