Apple revealed the latest iteration of its iPhone and iPad operating system, iOS 11, at the California Company’s World Wide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) in San Jose.
The company made four major announcements; which are iOS 11, watchOS 4, a new version of tvOS and macOS High Sierra, slated to arrive in autumn.
Along with these, there were smaller updates like introduction of person-to-person Apple Pay transfers, drag-and-drop multitasking on iPad, a do-not-disturb while driving mode, and Amazon Prime video on the Apple TV.
There was also the announcement of a new, $4,999 iMac Pro (for December), along with showcasing of a new pair of iPad Pros, including a 10.5 inch model to replace the 9.7-inch, and productivity enhancements to iOS 11 for the devices.
HomePod, a music-focused smart speaker for USD 349 is again slated for a December release -- Apple’s attempt to take on both the Amazon Echo and Sonos.
Here are the best features of the latest iOS 11.
Siri- Siri is now fitted with more artificial intelligence that can learn from users’ actions. It has natural expressing voice supporting different accents of the language, along with that it also have friendly visual interface, multiple results, and different language translation.
Siri intelligence- It will operate with on the device learning and will suggest topics, and respond to it users. It can be synced across all devices with end-to-end encryption.
Camera- The new Camera on iOS will have less space storage, and with a changed format from JPEG to HEIF (High-efficiency image format) which will lead to two times better compression. It will also have the feature of compatible sharing, and iPhone 7 Portrait mode.
It now has improved image quality, improved low light performance, optical image stabilization, True Tone flash, HDR and Depth API.
It also added new edit features like seamless loop, bounce, Long exposure which can be applied on the Live photos.
Messages and iCloud- The feature of Messages and iCloud is when you sign in with the other device all of the conversations from your phone will sync in. If you delete your message from one device, it will be automatically deleted from the other synced device. This will help you to optimize device storage and smaller and faster backups of iOS and macOS with end-end encryption.
Apple Pay- Apple Pay has added a feature of person to person payments and is also integrated with iMessage app. You can send and receive money and authenticate it with touch id. If you receive money through iMessage it will straight go to Apple Pay Cash card. It is available on all apple devices.
Maps- Maps now have enhanced information about the place. For example, if you visit the mall, it will show you the detail floor plans of the mall with place cards, directory and search and it will help you to browse by floor, supporting few major cities and airports. It has updated its Navigation app where the user can see speed limits and lane guidance.
Control Centre- The new control Centre condenses most controls on the lower half of the screen without looking cluttered and relies on a lot of #D Touch.
Apple Music- With Apple Music, you can now see what your friends are listening to and check out shared playlists.
App Store- The App Store is redesigned. There is a brand new App Store on iOS 11 which includes Today tab where you can discover new app and story about the developer. There is a new Games tab, In-app purchases tab and even Apps have their own tab
Augmented Reality - Apple is trying to grab its position on AR (augmented reality) world- think Pokemon Go. The developer tool is known as ARKit, and Craig Federighi introduces it with a swipe at the “carefully edited videos” that the likes of Facebook and Magic Leap have shown.
ARKit works by pulling the camera, CPU, and GPU, and motion sensors altogether. It finds planes, scale estimation, ambiance around.It is supported by millions of iPads and iPhones, making it the largest AR Platform in the world, said Federighi.
