BANGALORE: Nokia and Yahoo! announced the launch of Yahoo! Go services, which will enable consumers to access Yahoo! services including messenger, e-mail, search, connections, photos, ringtones and games on Nokia devices.
Yahoo! Go services has been optimized for Nokia N70 users and will come preinstalled on Nokia N70 and select Nokia Series 60 smartphones including the Nokia 6680, Nokia 6681 and the Nokia 6630.The new Yahoo! Go service provides a desktop-like interface on the mobile.
This announcement is an extension of the partnership announced between the two companies in 2005 which made Yahoo! search and entertainment services such as ring tones and wallpapers available on select Nokia mobile phones.
Speaking on the partnership, Gautam Advani, Director, Multimedia, Nokia India said, "Mobile phones have evolved as the consumer's ultimate companion. With the consumption levels for e-mail and messenger services in India constituting close to 98 percent of the total internet usage, the availability of Yahoo! Go services on Nokia N70 and Series 60 smartphones will bring a new dimension to mobility."
This is first time wherein Nokia is collaborating with Yahoo! to offer its internet based services on Nokia products. Yahoo! is not charging consumers for using Yahoo! Go. However data fees may apply, consumers will need to check their plan with their wireless carrier.
