Do you want to upgrade your year-old luxury sedan to the latest one in the series? Sell it and get what you want. Where? You might consider BBT aka Big Boy Toyz (BBT). This Gurgaon-based auto brand is not just selling cars but also dealing in luxury, style and aspirations. Pre-loved as they’d like to call their cars, the pre-owned luxury car business is going places. This time it is destination Bollywood.
After making appearances in numerous indigenous underground music videos of rappers like Honey Singh and Badshah, a fleet of 30 supercars from BBT would be a part of upcoming Dharma Production movie Drive. What might turn out to be the desi version of Fast and Furious would feature cars worth Rs 40 crore alongside starring Jacqueline Fernandez and Sushant Singh Rajput. A heterogeneous mix of the fleet would comprise Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces and Ferraris.
“The pre-owned cars business in India works on a ratio of 1:1 with the new cars market. The country sells between 30000 and 35000 luxury cars that’s includes Mercedes, BMW and Audis and the same pre-owned cars are sold in the pre-owned category. [If you look at the] the way the Indian market is growing in a couple of years we are heading towards a ratio of 1:1.5 just like the US and other markets where pre-owned cars takes the lead in the auto sector,” said Jatin Ahuja, Founder and Managing Director at BBT.
Ahuja boasts of a handpicked collection of luxury cars from across the world. What is not available elsewhere is available at BBT, he claims. From Mercedes, BMCs, Audis to Lamborghinis, Jaguars, Rolls Royces, Porsches, Ferraris and Astons-BBT has them all. Presently, BBT holds 95 percent of pan-India stock of the latest BMW i8 that includes new as well as pre-owned cars.
How loved is pre-loved at BBT? Most cars sold here are not driven for more than 3000 kms. Some cars are as new as 1000 kms only.
“People are shelling out anywhere between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 4 crore for cars at BBT with an average spend of Rs 1 crore. While 50 percent of the buys are passion driven, 50 percent is also utility driven because an S-class or a Range Rover is no more a luxury in India,” added Ahuja.
Who are buying these cars? Well, of course, there are people like Dinesh Karthik, Cyrus S Poonawalla, Virat Kohli. Others comprise Indian entrepreneurs. The top selling cities include NCR followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai.
Interestingly, buyers at BBT are also sellers there. “About 50 percent of my clients come back to me to sell their cars when they want an upgrade,” added Ahuja.
Presently, selling 75 cars a quarter, BBT plans to touch Rs 1000 crore revenue by 2020-2021 with targets to sell 100 cars per month.
