Google Maps to charge for use

From the 1st of January, 2012 onwards, Google will start charging for its Maps API usage. According to the BBC, when more than the limit of 25,000 hits are made in a day, Google may start charging $4 (approx Rs.198) for every 1,000 hits over the limit. This change will likely affect 0.35 percent of the users. It will primarily affect travel agents, who use maps to describe tourist destinations to their customers. Google says they understand that developers need time to figure out what this change means for them and take appropriate action. However, Google's concern is that Maps as a venture remains viable even used by the highest volume for-profit websites.
