"Cities in the past were built on riverbanks. They are now built along highways. But in the future, they will be built based on availability of optical fibre networks and next-generation infrastructure.
Terming as "historic moment" the signing of MoU, Union Health Minister J P Nadda said in the last two years many development proposals of AIIMS have turned into reality.
"The Prime Minister has given a mantra of reform, perform and transform for bringing change in the country and there is a need to implement this at a faster pace in view of the rising population in urban areas," Naidu said addressing a workshop on urban development here.
"Modi ji has undertaken a mission. Even people have started understanding that Modi means 'Making of Developed India'. This is why countrymen follow Narendra Modi. He tells his 'Mann ki Baat' and people accept it," Naidu said, adding that the Prime Minister's call for 'Swachch Bharat' has become a "people's movement".
HP Minister Sudhir Sharma yesterday met Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi and urged him to include Shimla in Smart City Mission as it was a famous international tourist destination, besides being the state capital.
The Union Urban Development Minister, who held a review meeting here, also suggested the CCI officials to use necessary instruments for determining the moisture content in cotton. The officials informed the minister that the Corporation is in the process of opening 84 centres in Telangana state.
Smart City Plans will be evaluated in the second stage of City Challenge competition based on such consultations and their economic and environmental impacts, Naidu said.
The Union Urban Development Minister said for Swachh Bharat Mission out of the total Central outlay of Rs 405.84 crore for Bihar, Rs 37.72 crore was released for 2014-15 for various components under the mission but the state government has not sent the utilisation certificate.
While holding a meeting with Uttarkhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat here, Naidu said projects which are not even completed 50 percent will be put under new schemes and will get funds accordingly.
