Nearly 58 lakh people Employees Provident Fund pensioners will now get medical benefits, Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said in the Lok Sabha today.
The Centre is likely to announce a hike of 2-4 per cent in dearness allowance for its about 50 lakh employees and 58 lakh pensioners later this month.
Expressing "dissatisfaction" over over the announcement of 2 per cent increase in dearness allowance by the government, railway unions have demanded it be raised to 3 per cent.
"There is no proposal under consideration at present for providing inflation-linked Dearness Allowance (DA) to pensioners of EPS, 1995," Dattatreya said in a reply in the Lok Sabha.
"The proposal to increase dearness allowance by six percentage points (from 113 percent) to 119 percent was approved by Union Cabinet on Wednesday," a source said. The DA hike will take effect from July 1.
