China lead the tally with 7.23 lakh tonnes (LT) followed by South Korea (6.03 LT), Japan (5.9 LT), Ukraine (95,340 tonne) and Germany (89,070 tonne), as per data tabled by Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar in Lok Sabha.
In May 2015, steel imports stood at 0.91 MT, a rise of 58 percent , compared to April 2015 when they rose by 20.4 percent , as per data by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC), under the Steel Ministry.
Easing this norm, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said now an exporter can provide such certificate from any international standard certifying body. "Now it shall be international standard certifying body," the DGFT said in a notification.
