Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene has gone top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) test rankings for batsmen after his superb 275 against India this week.

Jayawardene, who scored his sixth test double century in the drawn first test in Ahmedabad, leap-frogged his skipper Kumar Sangakkara and Indian opener Gautam Gambhir to reach the top, the ICC said on Sunday.

The 32-year-old completed 9,000 test runs during the same knock, only the ninth batsman to do so.
