Shobha De a passionate Mumbaikar

On CNBC-TV18's speical show Beautiful People, this week our guest has many public identities -- writer, columnist, patron of fashion, arbiter of taste, passionate Mumbaikar - she is Shobha De.

Excerpts of CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview on the show Beautiful People with Shobha De:

Q: All those identities, you respond to everyone I am sure, with passion. But none with more passion and more pride than the last one, which is your identity as a Mumbaikar, isn't it?

A: Completely, because for me that is what defines me. The city has made me the person I am and the city has tolerated me. I don't know any other city in India, which would have been as liberal, as accepting, as encouraging. And to have given me so much, I owe Mumbai a big one and I will never forget that and I will try and give back to Mumbai as much as I can.

Q: What do you make of what Mumbai is going to get over the next five years, we have just got the election results, so we have set for the same government over the next five years. What do you think Mumbai can expect?

A: To me it looks like we have chosen the known devil rather than take a chance with unknowns. But in a way, it is not such a bad signal because anything is better than a bhelpuri, which is offcourse a Mumbai dish, where you cobble something together and you throw in independence and you throw in other alliances, you sleep with the enemy - you put a government together that really has nothing to say. I don't know what this government has to say, we will wait and we will watch.

But the important thing is after the win, people are expecting this government to deliver on promises that were made over the years and have never been kept. But this time, I don't think, I hope that the electorate won't let them get off quite that easily.
