NHPC IPO by Aug-end to fetch Rs 1680 crPublished on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 22:07 | Source : CNBC-TV18 Updated at Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 13:09 Q: There is tremendous excitement as well for this IPO. How soon - before you finalise on how much of a premium you want to set on the face value and how soon you want to hit the market? A: The validity of the SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) clearance is up to 17 September 2009. In any case if we want to bring this IPO in the market we have to come to the market before 17 September 2009. Right now we are working on it and we are hoping that by end of August we will hit the market with our IPO. I may not be able to comment on the premium right now because we are still in the process of working out the premium. Q: Walk us through the FY09 performance that NHPC had both on the topline i.e. in terms of revenues and profits? A: During 2008-09 we had an impressive performance as compared to the last year itself. If we take the net profit we have already crossed four digits and this year we have clocked almost 1,075 crore net profit with a turnover around 2,700 crore as compared to the last year we had around 1,004 net profit as against our turnover of 2,300 crore. So this is a very impressive performance which we have shown during the year 2008-09. Q: You indicated that you have got permission for 24% sale; you are doing 10% from NHPC and 5% from the government. Would the remaining 9% be fresh capital raising for NHPC or would it be a government stake sale which follows the IPO eventually? A: Right now I may not be able to comment on it because 9% balance; we are hoping that it will be a fresh IPO in the second tranche whenever we come. We are not aware about about disinvestment and whether it will be out of the 9%. Q: What is your total installed capacity now and if you can give us a roadmap of how much that will go up by what timeframe? A: Let me share with you that we are number one generating hydro power company in the country with a 'Mini Ratna' status which has been conferred by Government of India last year itself going by our capability, capacity of generating hydro in the country. At present our installed capacity is 5,175 mw with 13 power stations already commissioned. In our 11th plan which is starting from 2007 and ending on 2012 we are lined up a dozen, 12 projects with a capacity of 5,322 mw out of which already we have given two projects to the nation in 2007-08. One project we are going to give this year in 2009-10 and seven in the next year and the remaining two will be coming in the last year of this five year plan followed by first year of the next five year plan. So we are hoping that as against our current capacity of 5,175 mw with 13 power stations, in the next five years NHPC is hoping to go for almost 10,000 mw a company in the hydro sector.
