Bajaj Hindusthan, one of the largest sugar producers in India, has reported a net loss of Rs 76.5 crore in the quarter ended June 2012 as against profit of Rs 1.1 crore in a year ago period.
Net sales increased 26.5% to Rs 1,329.6 crore from Rs 1,051.1 crore during the same period. Total expenses jumped 42.50% to 1,308.81 crore in the third quarter of financial year 2011-12 from Rs 918.40 crore in the corresponding quarter of last fiscal. Sugar business revenues increased to Rs 1,220.66 crore from Rs 974.56 crore and distillery business rose to Rs 125.96 crore from Rs 86.93 crore while power business declined to Rs 48.53 crore from Rs 12.54 crore YoY. The company has paid its entire sugar cane dues for the current sugar season (SS) 2011-12. It has also paid balance sugar cane liability for the SS 2006-07 and SS 2007-08 during April 2012. The share fell 3% to close at Rs 32.55 on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
