UTV Software came out with its result. For the annual year, the company has touched a revenue of about Rs 437 crore. Ronnie Screwvala, Chairman of the company said the group is looking at 100% growth in motion pictures as well as its gaming businesses in FY09.
Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview with Ronnie Screwvala:
Q: Could you break up the performance this time around for each one of your businesses, that’s television, film production and gaming?
A: Broadly for the annual year, we have touched a revenue of about Rs 437 crore, and I would say the break up to that will be almost 55% for movies and about 20% from TV content and the balance from our gaming part.
Q: How has the operating profit margin been this quarter around, particularly on the gaming side?
A: From a gaming point of view, at Rs 187 crore just this quarter and Rs 437 crore for the whole year. The up blip has really been primarily because of our gaming titles being released this quarter.
Q: What are the plans for the filming business going forward in terms of productions? How many films you have on screen for the coming months?
A: We are going from about 8 movies that we finished from this year to 18 movies in the coming year. So there is almost a sort of a 100% jump that we are looking there in just the motion pictures part of the business and we have seen equivalent growth in our gaming business too.
Q: How many of these movies are Hollywood movies, we are given to understand that generally in parking those revenues, you have a lag of about 12 months. Their revenues don’t really come from in theaters?
A: There is only one Hollywood movie. We have 18 movies for release which are all Indian movies. Basically we have only one Hollywood movie, which is a big one, of M. Night Shyamalan, which is going to get released on June 13 this year.
Q: What are the targets you are laying up for FY09 in terms of sales and profits?
A: We don’t give any forward looking targets in that context but what the relevant point out here is doubling the revenue both in motion pictures and gaming next year.
