Geodesic Information has announced its third quarter results. The company's Q3 net profit was up at Rs 24.3 crore (Rs 243 million) from Rs 21.7 crore (Rs 217 million) in the previous quarter. Co-Founder & MD of the company, Kiran Kulkarni, says that growth came in mainly from the diversification in the IM segment. He says that margins might be impacted due to increase in marketing expenses. He adds that the company will launch a new product next month.
Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview with Kiran Kulkarni:
Q: You have good set of results - what has the growth come in from? A: Growth has come in from the various applications of the Instant Messaging. We have very creatively positioned IM to suit different segments and have customized applications - for example we have started the portal and the publishers segment independently to give them more value. We have also signed deals with cell phone manufacturers; we have already announced the BenQ deal, so these diversifications of our IM applications into several segments has really set in the growth now. Q: What has been the performance in terms of percentage for Mundu this quarter and any new product launches that you are looking at? A: Personalized revenues from Mundu during this quarter are about 75% and rest of them have come from alike services that we provide or in terms of customer issue for the Mundu products. There are new products that have being launched during this quarter and we would be announcing them in the next month. Q: How many products are you looking at launching? A: We are looking at launching one product in the next month, we have already announced one product last quarter. Q: Your operating margin profits have gone up quite substantially from about 58% to about 61.5% - are you hoping to maintain these margins at these levels or are you looking at higher enhancement? A: The margins have gone up slightly, we will try and maintain the margins at these levels but obviously we are setting in a lot of marketing expenses during the next quarter and the next year because we are launching a retail initiative of Mundu. So far Geodesic has been about technology solutions provided to a host of companies and enterprises. Q: How much would you be putting in, in terms of marketing expenses percentage sales going forward? A: We are working on options in this final time and so we will possibly finalize all these numbers during this quarter. Q: Could you give us details of your BenQ tie up and if you are looking at more such contracts and tie-ups in future as well? A: We are obviously looking at more contracts, we are targeting the handset manufacturer, we are targeting the network carrier, we are also targeting the alternate carriers like Wimax providers today and at this time, I cannot speak much about the BenQ deal because the product would get launched and then we are allowed to speak. We are under the non-disclosure agreement at this point in time. Q: When would the product launch actually come in? A: This would come in the second quarter of FY08. Q: Your targets for FY07? A: We have given a guidance of 160 crore and 65 crore as the bottomline after tax. I think in terms of PAT, it is almost there, so we will possibly try and overachieve the targets that we have set for ourselves. Q: How has the response been to Mundu radio been? A: Mundu radio has seen a phenomenal response, we have seen great registrations - in fact, our conversions have been unusually high. So the conversion ratio has almost been close to 12.5% and the product would go retail during the next month and it will be a price product from next month onwards.
