ANDAs will benefit FY13 and FY14 numbers: Alembic Pharma

Alembic Pharma has announced its third quarter results. Pranav Amin, director of Alembic Pharma says, the revenues have gone up 15%, YoY. He further says, the company so far has filed 41 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs). “Over the next couple of years, we should see quite a bit of growth coming in international generic,” he adds.

Alembic Pharma has announced its third quarter results. Pranav Amin, director of Alembic Pharma says, the revenues have gone up 15% to Rs 383 crore from Rs 332 crore last year.

He further says, the company so far has filed 41 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs). "Over the next couple of years, we should see quite a bit of growth coming in international generic," he adds.

Below is the edited transcript of his interview with CNBC-TV18's Latha Venkatesh and Reema Tendulkar. Also watch the accompanying video.

Q: Your margins have improved, although the revenue has been a little lower. Can you take us through how you expect fourth quarter to pan out? Will your revenue rate be better?

A: Our revenues have gone up 15% to Rs 383 crore from Rs 332 crore last year.

Q: What did you do in the second quarter in revenues?

A: We did nearly Rs 400 crore. There a reason for that. There's a seasonality effect. Hence, this quarter always lower than the last quarter.

Q: But how will fourth quarter in FY13 pan out in terms of sales?

A: Q2 and Q3 are the stronger quarters for domestic and Q4 and Q1 are weaker. So, compared to Q4 last year, ofcourse there will be a growth. But compared to Q3 it will be a little lower.

Q: What are the ANDAs that you are looking to file and might get approved in the next one year?

A: So far we have filed 41 ANDAs. We have got approvals of 17. This year, so far, we filed three. We should do another five, so about eight. Going forward, we expect to file anywhere between 8 and12 ANDAs every year.

Q: Will that mean a quantum leap in sales in the next year FY13 or FY14?

A: Yes, absolutely. Our strategy in international markets is that most of it should be coming from international generics. We got 41 filed already. So, over the next couple of years, we should see quite a bit of growth coming in international generic.
