The cut motion opposing petro excise duty hike has been defeated by 246 votes versus 162 in the Lok Sabha today. The motion was moved by BJP's Sushma Swaraj.
There was a break in the ranks of the opposition with both Mulyam Singh and Lalu Prasad Yadav not expected to vote in that motion. The BSP had said it would back the government even as the government was confident that the motion would not get carried.
