AIADMK's TTV Dinakaran rejects sacking claims: 'No one can remove me'
The 'sacking' comes amid speculation that the warring factions of the AIADMK are all set to merge.
TTV Dinakaran on Thursday denied that he had been sacked as the General Secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
Dinakaran, a member of the Sasikala faction of the AIADMK, said: "VK Sasikala made me the (party's) Deputy General Secretary and only she has the power to remove me."
"I am in a responsible position. I will never undermine the rule of the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. No one can confuse the cadre of AIADMK and the people of Tamil Nadu," he added.
Chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami had earlier in the day said that senior members of the party had passed a resolution to sack Dinakaran from the party and invalidated all appointments made by him.
This led to speculation that the two warring factions of the AIADMK are all set to merge.
The merger would allow Chief Minister Palaniswami to continue in his position while leader of the rebel faction and former CM O Paneerselvam may be given charge as Deputy Chief Minister and crucial portfolios such as finance. The presence of Dinakaran and Sasikala in key party positions remains the sticking point between the two factions, according to reports in the media. Sasikala is currently in jail in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
