NRIs: Get a step closer to dual citizenship
It would be pertinent to note that with all it's benefits, overseas citizenship is not a full citizenship of India and does not amount to dual citizenship or dual nationality, say experts from Ernst and Young.
The Constitution of India does not allow an individual to hold Indian citizenship along with foreign citizenship. However, the High Level Committee on the Indian Diaspora has suggested introduction of 'Dual Citizenship'. The Diaspora is very special to India. Living in distant lands, members of the Diaspora have had spectacular success in their chosen professions by means of their single-minded dedication and hard work. It is heartening to see that despite their success, they have continued to retain emotional, cultural and spiritual links with India, the country of their origin.
