Kotak Mahindra MF picks oil & gas, pharma; sells telecom

Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund has increased in weightage in oil & gas, pharmaceuticals and utilities space. However, it slashed its exposure in telecommunication, metals & mining and services space.

Dish TV, Union Bank of India and NTPC were top buys, while Bharti Airtel, Shree Renuka Sugars and HDFC Bank were top sells by the fund.

The study of Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund for the month of December 2011 showed that in the oil & gas sector, the fund bought Reliance Industries, GAIL India and ONGC, while sold IOC and Cairn India. It also exited Petronet LNG in the same space.  (View - All Bulk Deals by Mutual Funds).

In the pharmaceuticals segment, it purchased Lupin, Dr Reddys Laboratories and Torrent Pharmaceuticals. However, it sold Cipla, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and exited Jubilant Life Sciences.

The fund bought NTPC, Tata Power Company and CESC in the utilities space.

The selling pressure was seen in the telecommunication, metals & mining and services space. In the telecommunication pack it sold Bharti Airtel. (Check out - Which sectors are attracting Fund Managers?)

In the metals & mining segment, it sold Jindal Steel & Power, Coal India and MOIL. However, it purchased Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel and SAIL.

In the services industry it exited Indian Hotels Company.
