Equity funds managed to end in green with majority of funds registering positive returns. The advance: decline ratio recorded for the funds belonging to boarder indices Large cap and Small & Mid cap were 55: 22 and 37:11. Among others equity category, the ratio recorded was29:16 for ELSS, 69: 24 for Equity Diversified and 13: 9 for Balanced funds. The sector funds however were not seen gaining and closed in red. None of the sector category registered any positive returns. The Sensex shuts shop at 17772.84 up 24.15 points or 0.14% and the Nifty closed at 5390.20 up 8.60 points or 0.16%. While the rally appears to have lost its steam, it has refused to drift lower. In the debt market, debt funds were seen gaining subsequent to the release of India's industrial production output data which indicated to grow less than economists estimated, bolstering the case for the RBI to lower interest rates. Both Short term and Long term category funds advanced owing to RBI's hint to cur interest rate if inflation falls below their comfort level. Short term debt funds witnessed no loser while advance: decline ratio recorded for Long term and Gilt Long term was 66: 7 and 30:18 respectively.
