NAVs end lower as markets decline

Equity diversified NAVs ended lower with advance:decline ratio of 42:209, as the benchmark Nifty lost ground in late trade sell-off. The Sensex shut shop below the 16000 mark. Downtrend was seen in banking, oil & gas exploration, capital goods, technology, power, select auto, metal and pharma stocks. However, buying was seen in HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, Sterlite, BPCL, Hindalo, Unitech, Hero Honda, Grasim and Jaiprakash Associates.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 15,922.17, down 120.01 points or 0.75% and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 0.74% or 35.45 points to settle at 4,757.20.

On the sectoral front, pharma, technology and banking funds declined while FMCG funds ended mixed with positive bias.

Long term debt funds also closed with negative returns while short term debt funds with positive returns; their advance:decline ratio stood at 14:65 and 69:30, respectively.
